Write a poem a day - 22!
Well, hello everyone! Today class got off to an... interesting start, to say the least. After Justin read his blog, Ms. Nakada showed us how we were going to get to the AR tests through the new (and not particularly pretty) Emerson website. Then, she showed us William Carlos Williams' poem "This Is Just to Say" which we read last year with Ms. Barbeau. Her understanding of the poem seemed to be a bit unique, if you will, and Sabrina wasn't afraid to share the possibility of this poem being about a girl being 'deflowered.' We also read "To a Poor Old Woman", which also raised some suspicion about its meaning, and Ms. Nakada explained that if we were going to think of the poem like that, then it would be about... gah, this is really the most awkward day for doing the blog. I'd say it, but everyone was here yesterday, so I'm sure you remember what we discussed.
After that, we worked on writing our own poems in the style of "This Is Just to Say," which, as usual, few people chose to share. We saw some examples of poetry collections from students of years before. Now we're watching a poem on YouTube called "To This Day" about calling people names and beauty and a bunch of other things. It has really interesting illustrations and video clips and I think it can really open your eyes.
During the middle of the video the bell rang, so I'm going to pack up now. Bye!
