AGENDA

Gift of Words
Essay Completion

HW: AVI book

Today's a minimum day, and the last day before break, and Ms. Nakada is giving us a gift of words, meaning, a couple of poems by Robert Frost. This blog will be rather short, and after this I have to finish an essay.
Now we are discussing one of the poems. Ms. Nakada is talking about the magic of watching snowfall.
Now we are talking about the solstice. My definition seems to have confused people.
If you are wondering, the school play is in February.

Now we are starting on essays. Now I am done with my essay.

9 minute warning.

4 minute warning.

P.S. Silence is going next.

Well,  it's my third time doing the blog this year, and I can't help but wonder if Sebastian picking me had anything to do with accidentally leaving him at the bus stop yesterday.  Sorry Bass.
Everyone is finishing up their Melting Pot essays, but I finished my draft yesterday.  There isn't much to  report, but I'm really mesmerized by Mrs. Nakada's book taping device.  It looks very fun to work with.  Quinn is taking a turn taping, and I'm a little jelly.  Kameron wanted to be in my blog, but I don't think it's a good idea to add a picture because of what happened last time, so shout out to Kammy.  ;)  Just got my eyes checked.  I guess not wearing my glasses isn't harming my eyes too much like my doctor told me it would.  I'm  packing up now.

So here I am again, yes I know, I'm awesome. So, first off let me start by saying that I hate Orson! Just kidding, Orson is awesome, but not as much as me. So far, Ms. Nakada is teaching us about how to right the melting pot essay. We have to first finish the five questions, I think, so you can get the idea of what to write. I don't know what to write, but I can hear papers just rattling around. I just looked over to Quinn and looks lost while he's playing with his pencil. Everyone is moving their pencil and writing, Ms. Nakada wants us to write as much as we can because she wants to finish this before we go off on a 3 week break! Our essays are going to be longer than this blog because we are not doing anything but writing so there's really nothing else to say. We have about 4 minutes left so I'm going to pack up. bye!

Back to work, I'm trying to blog and write at the same time its not easy. Ms. Nakada is picking up the Melting Pot now everyones leaving and I'm just here like Bye.

Hi, everyone thanks to Rudolph, it's my turn. I read a couple of pages with my group. I really could not understand it because I kept getting lost because of Sparky. Sometimes when he reads he uses an accent which sometimes gets me lost. I did my book project on The Curse Of The Golden Flower. It's a book about a royal family and how they all despise each other. I did a scene and Facebook page, about the family. Erica showed me a page of her jacket or excerpt. I've been sitting here for a couple of minutes now and all i can think to write of at this moment is Daisy's pink hair i like it for Halloween Jesi suggested that she could be lava girl.

Our NaNoWriMo stuff is due on Friday, and hopefully Saad is done with his novel. Now, I'm with my Shakespeare group. Surprisingly, Act 4 scenes 1 & 2 went by fast. Ms. Nakada just passed out our grades. Justin and I got the exact same percentage, 89.44%. SPOOKY. Anyway, we're finishing off the rest of the period with writer's workshop.

Thanks guys for listening. Hope you all enjoyed. Commenting is free. Other then that, I'm out. If anyone needs me, I'll be with Santa and all the other reindeers delivering presents.

Once again, It's my turn to do the blog, oh joy. Well right now we're reading A Midsummer Nights Dream Act 4 Scene 1. I feel like this is gonna take up all the class time so this blog might be short. We just finished reading. Why would Titania fall in love with a donkey? Okay so now we're doing writers workshop. We get to work on our novel or our book projects. My novels about how this bright light hits earth and then everyone goes crazy killing other people and such. Then I introduce these charectors who are different than normal people so they don't turn into these blood craving creatures. You know their crazy by their eyes, if they have no pupils then you know they've turned. It's not like zombies where they try to bite you. I mean the people who turn try to kill every living thing they see. I still don't know what my novel Jacket is gonna be. My book project is gonna be on this book called Divergent. Time to work on it so baiiii :) < Smiley face.

So Erika's suppose to be here, but she refused. Anyways, we start class with reading the blog then getting into or companies. We read Act 3 Scene 2 lines 1-295. After all the sections we read I've barely managed to understand anything. But today the section was about Puck successfully poisoning Tatina but fails to poison Demetrius and ends up poisoning Lysander. So they both fall in love with Helena which sort of upsets Hermia. But Helena thinks their all mocking her. Drama, right? Tell me about it.
We have a few minutes left of class so some people are working on their novel jackets and excerpts. By the way they're due Friday along with our book projects.

Heres a sentence from each act summary if you missed one, In Theseus court, Egeus brings Hermia , Demetrius and Lysander because he wants Hermia to marry Demtrius but she wants to marry Lysander. Act 1 scene 2 Quina is putting on a play with bottom, Flute, Snout and Starrling "Pyramus and Thisby."Act 2 scene 1 we meet Puck who works for Oberon, King of the spirits. Everyone is talking about Titania and I keep turning around thinking people are calling me. Now everyone moved their tables back to where they are and Ms. Nakada is doing English Scores.  We just added three more reading journal checks 13.1-13.4 out of 20 points. Hi. I'm back to do my second blog after almost everyone, except me and maybe someone else, has done their second blog. Well after Daisy read her blog and pick me to do the blog, Ms. Nakada got everyone to correct either two or even three quizzes. Right now they are in the middle of correcting the second quiz with Ms. Nakada telling them the right answers. Earlier Ms. Nakada just said that it isn't okay for our country to ban books because our country has the freedom of speech. Now Ms. Nakada and everyone else only have one question left to correct, finally! It's kind of boring to type about the class correcting a quiz when you are doing the blog. Right now they are discussing the answers for the last question and they seem to be done now. Right now they are going to return the quiz back to the person who is in this classroom or making a pile for those who aren't here. For people who aren't happy with their scores are taking out notebook paper and writing the correct answer on that paper to at least get more points. Which I can't do right now because I didn't bring my backpack with me and is currently by my seat. I have to go and get ready to leave. The bell just rang, bye! Or in other cases, PEACE!

So we're back from Thanksgiving break today... yay. But that means that it's December, and the end of NaNoWriMo. I hope everyone had fun, though!

Ms. Nakada just did our final NaNoWriMo check *sobs silently in corner*.

As much of a challenge this past month has been, I've really enjoyed writing and it's inspired me to continue and write a sequel. 20,000 words seemed unthinkable to even attempt to write a month ago. I'm sure that we're all going to miss the shortened reading journals as well. Most of us finished, but there were still a few people who weren't able to meet their word count goal. Congratulations if you did, though!

Now, we're working on our reflections. The questions ask us about our word count goal, the challenges we faced while writing, and what we learned about ourselves as writers. Ms. Nakada is also checking all of our novels.

The bells is going to ring soon. I finished my reflection early so I've been sitting here doing nothing for the past 10 minutes.

Now we're packing up, which means it's almost time to go (obviously), so bye!

Ms. Nakada is reading us a pep talk from Marie Lu. Marie is giving us tips on how to keep going with our novel. It was a good pep talk. I can't believe we will all be done with our novels by the time I read this to the class.

Well I'm doing the blog again. Today Ms. Nakada gave us the whole period to write our novels. She said we're going to have a few word wars too.  Some people are writing and others are working on class work. I got lucky today to write the blog because I didn't bring the alphasmart I'm using to write because I was scared of wetting it in the rain and breaking it or something. Is alpha smart one word or two?  Anyway, I got used to typing in an alpha smart, now the edges of the computer are making marks on my arms. It hurts. It didn't hurt with the alpha smart. Everyone's so quiet I feel like screaming just to make some noise, oh, someone moved a chair, that made noise. Alright, I guess I could take random photos of the class to occupy(is that how you spell it?I don't know) my time. UGH I forgot how to put photos in to this thing.
  I got Jennifer!!!!!!!

I got the middle of the class, but I was aiming for the whole class. It took me a while too. Omune smiling for the camera.

Ms. Nakada explained how we're going to get our word count into the NaNoWriMo program. It sounded complicated for the people who handwrite it.

What to do, what to do.......
 My arms are hurting.

Word War!!!!!!
It's going to be a five minute word war. And there off!!!!
Does a word war count if your writing the blog? If it does I wrote...

Random words for word war....
Whoa I just got dizzy.. Pizza, blueberry, Pie day, photos, stapler, markers, backpack, crayloa, trash can, box, wipeys, Bitterblue(which is the name of the book I'm reading) Omune's computer is about to die. I thought it was a bomb because it was beeping.

I wrote 49 words, if you counted it and I got it wrong. Comment! You'll get a candy from Ms. Nakada.
Whoa, this is the longest blog I've ever typed, then again it's only the second blog I've ever typed.
Ms. Nakada is taking word goal percentages now.
Let's take a picture with Jennifer!!
Omune jumped in.

Omune's face though LOL :D Erika wanted a photo too so...

Ms. Nakada told us to wrap up. GOOD BYE

 Today was a good day.

Hey. Today we started off with collecting dues. I forgot mine so i will bring it tomorrow. Justin read the blog and he choose me. Thanks Justin! Well now the class got into their shakespeare companies. Each group has to read Act 2 scene ,  then summarize what happened, and give their group a grade. All I hear is people reading. The class is pretty loud. I heard someone sneeze real loud but I didn't see who it was. This blog is gonna be short since there isn't really anything going on. Jennifer asked if I was doing the Blog. She barely realized it and she's not that far away from me. Today I'm happy because yesterday Mexico played against New Zealand and won. That has nothing to do with class but I have nothing else to write.

Justin keeps on trying to mess up my spelling. Saad just walked into the classroom. I turned back and noticed a new kid. Ms. Nakada passed out sheets for another write in on Friday. Now we are gonna hear a pep talk from Lev Grossman. His pep talk was like if you were trying to win the Hunger Games.  Ms. Nakada just told us that they added the word selfie to the dictionary. It's writing time so I'm going to write. We have like 20 minutes so I'll be back. We have 5 minutes so im gonna pack up. The bell rang so bye.

We have to summarize what we read to make sure we understand it. So far what I understand is that there's  a play going on and people are arguing over what parts they're getting. We stopped reading and are now working on our novel. I'm stuck on what I should write next. My story is starting to get boring, I need a conflict.          After Ms. Nakada explained everything about the nanowrimo submissions, we start working on our novels while Ms. Nakada checked reading journals. Sparky said 2 minute warning so we all start packing up so I guess this is GOODBYE.

There were lots of tours today and Rose had to read the BLOG to the first group of tours. Ms. Nakada informed the parents on the tours of how the class works and everything- like she always does. Omune is talking behind me about how the play would be funny if someone dies at the end of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Ms. Nakada just told us to write down our first line from out book, the book title, and how many words we have on a slightly yellow piece of paper. Then Ms. Nakada started asking people for their usernames so she could add them. She's then telling people to change their word counts because some people have zeros.

Now Sparky's talking about baseball and the world series, I think. We have 20% and the other class has 18% so I guess were winning. Some people are writing their novels but Ms. Nakada and other students are talking about jackets? I don't even know. It's so quiet all I could hear are the keyboards. We're going to have a word war for about four minutes. Ummm, I think that Omune won and Emma, Congrats.

Anyway, now everyone is writing their novels. It's so quiet in the classroom. All you can hear is people typing. There are about 24 days left until NaNoWriMo ends and then we'll have to wait yet another year until NaNoWriMo comes back. Ms. Nakada is now collecting our NaNoWriMo letters that we wrote to our parents and to our writing partner. I'm just sitting here.... changing the color of the words and listening to everyone type. MaKaiia, TURN YOUR PHONE OFF DURING CLASS! By the end of today, we should each be at around 20% of our goal.

Finally, we are actually getting some work done. Gracie and Emma are passing out our portfolios. Some assignments that we're adding to our list of assignments are: R.J. 11.1-11.4, R.J. 12.1-12.3, NaNo Letter, and NaNo first week. Today Ms. Nakada started off by asking students for their usernames on the NanoWrimo website. The Novel Writers

Now we are putting our computers away and getting ready for Shakespeare.  We are supposed to pass notes with somebody near us multiple times and talk about our novels, Shakespeare or other topics we can come up with.  Once we are finished passing notes, we are supposed to translate our sentences into Elizabethan English.  Some of the words we are translating include: YOU - THOU,  YOUR - THOU - THINE, WE - YE, and ME - THEE.  For any verbs, you add EST, 'ST, and ST.  Well, the bell just rang and I guess it's time for me to go.  Tuesdays are pretty short.

HW
  • RJ 13.1: 5-10 pages
So here goes my second blog thanks to Ms. Nakada for saying I had nothing to do so I had to do the blog. Ms. Nakada says that I have to write about Friday as well as today, but it's not that hard because Friday we wrote the whole day. Our goal was to get about 1000-3000 if you were a normal person, so I guess I'm not normal because I wrote 4,500 words. I didn't stay though for Friday because I like writing without a lot of people around me, so I went home and wrote. Sebastian just told me to write about him, so here you go.

Now to today's agenda. We started off the day with getting our percentages from Ms. Nakada on our word counts for our novels. We then began to write for a while while Ms. Nakada talks to us about our word wars which is a contest to see who can write the most words in three minutes. Sparks says he isn't going to do the word war because he's bad under pressure to write, but I think he's just afraid he's going to lose. Kameron are you happy now that you are in my blog? God. Ms. Nakada now stopped us to talk to us about a dare machine and some extra encouragement from James Patterson. The dare machine is a simulator that gives a problem, solution, or idea to write about for your novel if you get stuck. You just press a button and gives one to you. Now we have started our word war and I can't tell who is winning, but I know Erica has not stopped typing to my left. Now it has ended and we are gonna see who the winner is. Quinn started off and said that he wrote 117, but I was right and Erica wrote 208 and won the war. Makaiia won for the hand written portion and wrote 80 words.

Now we are putting our lab tops away and taking out our english notebooks to write on page 24 about Shakespeare continued on A Midsummers. We had to write a modern sentence into Elizabethan. Here is the sentence: Why do you have a pumpkin in your locker? Curtis, Sparks, and Jesi all gave very Shakespeare like like sentences to translate the sentence. Now the bell has rang, so bye.

Well, hi everyone. This my second blog and I am really happy. Today we are finishing our line from Shakespeare reading. I like Gracie's "through Athen's gate have we devised to steal." Shakespeare's  book is  mostly about a love triangle. Hermia loves Lysander but Demetrius wants to marry Hermia but Hermia's bestfriend Helen likes Demitrius. Kameron clams to not get it. Wow, I didn't know that you had to marry who your father wanted you to marry. How is Demetruis going to tell Hermia to relent? He's not the daddy. Kameron just said he hoped Helen was not super ugly. That is so like Kameron. I am so excited to sign up for nanowrimo month. Ms. Nakada said that the book said Helen said she was as fair as Hermia and I said only she said that, not anyone else, and wouldn't everyone want to marry her too? Kameron keeps bothering me about us taking a picture.

Ms. Nakada is talking about kids having to get permisson to get married if your under the age of 18, but in Georgia if you're pregnant you don't need your parent's permisson. The question is what would you do if your parents did not like one of your friends. I would lie and tell my mom that I was going to hangout with a friend she liked and meet the friend my mom does not like. Omg, l love Maya's accent. I think I recognize Hazel. I think she was my old middle school teacher before I came here. Word wars sound fun, but I might not be here Friday. Picture time.

Now we are talking about  our writing supporters. Mine is my older cousin and my aunt and my mom. My blog disappered, but I found it. Well, actually Ms. Nakada found it. Like I said before pic time.

Hermia doesn't want to marry Demetrius because she loves Lysander and she has to decide: death, a nunnery, or marry Demetrius. She and Lysander decide to run away into the forest. They tell Helena about their plan and she plans to tell Demetrius.

Now were doing nanowrimo, talking about the character questionnaire and internal and extrenal conflicts.

Hey guys! So I was picked to do the blog today, thank you Saad >.< Today there are some parents that are coming in every like 2 minutes. Ms.Nakada is explaining what we do in the academies and our English class. I think she's said it like 3 times now, because all these parents just keep flowing in. Sabrina, Curtis and Kameron have explained to yet another group of big people what we do. This is getting a bit repetitive:-|

Now the class are writing down their English scores. There hasn't been another group of visitors but there are some outside in the corridor so I think they might be coming in, in a bit.
Ms.Nakada is handing out our portfolios (they're green!) I just got my 'Columbus Day Reading' essay thingy back, I didn't do that well:(

Omg I just saw the photo with Mr. Hastings dressed up as a DUCK in a PINK dress! LOL!
Omune, Silence and Sabrina are giving us our book project back along with our scores.
Everyone is doing NaNoWriMo Prep and Writers Workshop, I'm about to go do an AR (Accelerated Reader) test on a book I just finished called Living Dead Girl. It was very good, I am not going into detail, but I can just say that the main character is kidnapped when she was 10 (when she is telling the story she is 15) and she gets raped by her kidnapper every day, it is very sad but touching :(
I'm back! I did the quiz and I got 90%. I have now read 980,000 words and 15 books.
The bell rang so bye!!! :) :P

Intro to Shakespeare
NaNoWriMo Prep/ writer's workshop

Hello, I'm doing the blog today because I got picked by Silence. Thanks. Right now we are talking about Shakespeare and what kind of plays and poems he did. He made Sonnets, 14 line poems in iambic pentameter. Ms. Nakada just told us that Shakespeare created knock-knock jokes, funny because he never looked happy. We just got a map of A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare and it looks really confusing. If a girl doesn't marry the guy her dad wants she's gonna get murdered.. sucks. Now we are looking in Shakespeare's book and reading the script. Now we are gonna do popcorn reading. This language is confusing. We finished reading and now we are gonna work on our novels for NaNoWriMo. My characters name is Sterling Smith. He's a white boy who lives in Compton and he's trying to do is make the NBA. I only have 2 minutes of class left so, Bye!

~Intro to Shakespeare
~NaNoWriMo

So, I was picked for the blog :'(. I absolutely dislike doing the blog, never knew why but I just do. Anyways, we start off the class by opening our reading/writing journals and writing "Intro to Shakespeare." Apparently we are skipping that for now so now we are writing NaNoWriMo in our reading/writing journals. We have to write 20,000 words to get an A which is about 650 words a day. To write our novels we are given the options to use a flashdrive, an alpha smart, or our own laptop which is not recommended for every day, or to handwrite it. We have all of November to write our novels. Too bad my birthday is in November. Now on to our NanoWriMo Packets. Now we are filling in good and bad books we have read and giving reasoning why. I know I didn't really care for the book called "That Summer." It didn't really seem to have much of a story to it. Now people are sharing their thoughts on good and bad books. Now we have to think about our characters like for example how they look, their name, age, etc. Well, time is almost running out so I better wrap this up. Bye (:

So here I am to the wonderful, awesome, Orson. Why Orson! Whatever lets get on with the class, Ms. Nakada first says that today will be our last page for grammar. We get some kind of Shakespeare sentance and Omune runs her mouth and says that her mom likes Shakespeare. Well, anyway we are about to write down our NaNoWriMo. Well I was just thinking about writing my novel about baseball. Speaking of baseball, I really hope the Red Sox win the Cardinals even though I'm not a Red Sox  fan. I just really hate the Cardinals! Ms. Nakada hopefully you'll show this to Francisco in period 3. So anyway let's get on with the class, So we start talking about how we can write our novel. Ms. Nakada is helping us and giving us ideas about a novel. So its an early day and the bell is about to ring, so I'm out! Bye.

"Aristotle" write around
Write the beginning
NaNoWriMo Prep

Well... I'm back
Hello everyone! Today I was chosen to be the blogger for the second time. Thanks, Jack. So, today is Monday, October 21. By the way happy birthday, Sabrina. In class, Ms. Nakada is reading the poem, "Aristotle". Students are being asked to input their opinions. As quoted  by Curtis, "There must be a lot of baby mama drama", from Aristotle's reference to Miriam not wanting Edward's

The beginning. Everything starts. "Fish wriggling onto land". Evolution. "The first word of Paradise Lost on an empty page." an Allusion. A journey, "Here climbers are studying a map". Or The Bible, "This is early on, years before the Ark, dawn." "This is your first night with her, your first night without her." A relationship.

Today in class we are to write our own Beginning. Because as strange as it sounds we are at the end of the beginning of the year. 1/4 of the way done.

Students are writing their beginnings. Including me. It's pretty quiet.

Quinn, Rose, Sparky, and Emma shared their Beginnings. They were really great.

Now we're discussing National Writing Month. It begins November 1st. Funny because that's my birthday. Going to be 14. We are being strictly told NOT to start our novels until November 1st. That day, we have the opportunity to be excused from ALL other classes during that Friday to get a jump start on our novels. I'm definitely going to join that!

Alright class is over. Goodbye guys!

It's a minimum day today, lucky for me I don't have to write a lot. We started off the day with a poem called Aristotle by Billy Collins. We are to underline, question, circle key words star ideas you like, summarize and finally, heart things you love.  By now we are passing our poems (with our notes) down to someone else who can write down their thoughts, Curtis and Justin are giggling at my paper.  After trying to get the picture in the blog deleted. Luckily it had saved.
Thanks guys.

Our last rotation of our poems is going around now so hopefully this will end soon.
(good luck Justin)
I get my paper back to see this.
"That's deep"
"Progressing difficulties"
"People betray so theres revenge"
and finally after forgetting my heading they so happily wrote my heading with my name wrong...

Once we are done stapling our grading sheet to the student led conference sheet we have to pack up and get ready to go for the earthquake drill. Ms. Nakada is telling us what we should do today for the drill and in case of an earthquake. This was a short blog. The earthquake is late and we are all waiting. The drill is starting! Bye!

Wow, aren't I a happy blogger... The Dodgers lost last night, my book project is falling apart and I have running day today. Dear Baseball gods, please have the Dodgers win this series. Now it is time to share our book projects. Most people were lazy and just did instagram pages, but I did a long, time-consuming diorama. (Bad choice Quinn.)

Hey look I'm on the moon

I just presented my diorama and now Ma ka'ii is presenting hers. Emma is now showing off her Instagram page. While the page loads I am trying to figure out why I am so tired right now. I got a good sleep. Did you know that if UCLA wins their next three games they are national championship bound? Hey, we read more words than every other period. I would put a hashtag saying period 2 is the best but that is pretty mainstream. Since we are talking about reading lots of words, in 6th grade I read 1 million words in like 10 weeks and in the past 2 years I haven't read that much... This blog is pretty all over the place.

BYE class is almost over and I'm in the clouds, photo booth is pretty cool.

Well, I already wrote an awesome blog, but I just accidentally deleted everything, and "command z" is not being a really great friend right now.  Sparky just said there are seven minutes left of class so I'm trying to summarize.  We discussed Christopher Columbus, and how he "discovered" America in 1492, but it really wasn't him.  He also enslaved Arawaks, stole their gold, and killed them if they did not do as he said.  We discussed Morison and Las Casas, and whether or not we believed we should celebrate Columbus Day.  I agreed with Sparky when he said that we shouldn't celebrate, but commemorate.  Well, there's the two minute warning.  I'm not even going to try to add a picture again, because I'm not really in the mood to stay in at nutrition to finish this.

Analyzing themes in literature
writer's workshop
HW: RJ 9.3 15-20 pages

Hey. So I'm back again. Thanks to Curtis -.- I gotchu.

Today we start off by writing notes in "Analyzing themes in literature." I can't spell that word so I asked Curtis >.<. Ms. Nakada asks what a theme is. Its an overarching idea or lesson. For an example, in The Outsiders, things are rough all over is considered a theme. Or the theme "Nothing Gold Can Stay"

I left my project in Hastings office! It's the only thing I did yesterday (you welcome Ms. Nakada). Ms. Nakada won't be here tomorrow so guess what? SUBS. It's because she has to go to training. -.-  Tomorrow we'll be writing our second letter home.

Right now we're beginning writer's workshop to finish our paragraphs and essays and all the stuff related to that. I finished my paragraph and essay so I'm going to continue you reading my book The Devil's Arithmetic. Ms. Nakada's going around checking our binders and notebooks to see if we filled them out.

Sparky just gave the 9 minute warning to me. Today's going by so fast. But I can't wait for 6th period P.E.: best class of the day (Love you Ms. Nakada).

3 minutes left so time to pack up. So yeah see you next time blog. So long.

Sup, Ms. Nakada's class? Once again I have been picked for the blog [please excuse incorrect spelling].

Today in class we stared out by doing Latin roots. The notes were root, examples, and meaning. These notes were taking in p.19 of our notes notebook.

Hahaha , looking at these pictures of Hastings. It's making me laugh.

Anyway, Ms. Nakada is giving examples and of course Sparky is trying to stretch the meaning. Now she is showing a website and I notice it has two characters from a show called Adventure Time. That's a funny show.  All of this will be on the next quiz.

Now we are headed into Readers /writers workshop, my favorite part of English class. Everyone is working on final drafts of paragraphs, or taking AR tests. Well, guys it is a short day today and there is nothing more to say. Hey, that rhymed. Why is Quinn breathing on my neck? Anyways, Sparky just told me there is ten more minutes left. So, I gotta go, hey that rhymed again. Peace.

Well, at last I'm here.... on a Monday.... We're starting with the 10 week grades. I'm a tiny bit scared so don't judge me if I do something wrong (sorry). Overall we've done the RJ 5.1 - 5.4, letters at home #1, quiz #1, RJ 6.1- 6.4, The Outsiders movie vs. book, RJ 7.1 - 7.4, and RJ 8.1 - 8.4 (all RJ worth 20 pt. ). Jack and Quinn just passed our folders to us so we can start the reader's/writers workshop. So now we're getting our work done with our finial copy of The Outsiders book vs. movie printed out, The Outsiders essay turned in, if we need to AR/STAR testing, and book project started (due Friday). In some ways this blog reminds me of last year when I had Ms. Nakada for elective (Newspaper). Everyone seems really busy. Arettzy say's "Hi."  Sparky's giving us the 2 min warning. I should get going, the bell rang bye!

Socratic Seminar

Homework
Make-up work for
10 week grades

It's finally my turn to do the blog, yay! (sarcasm) I am the last person to go and then I think we start over. Anyways, right now Ms. Nakada has made everyone turn the tables around so that we can start our Socratic Seminar. I heard her asking some people why they hadn't filled in their sheet thingy, oops!
There gonna begin the Seminar now so I better listen, or what's the point of this blog. The first question is "Are things rough all over?" Sparky just said that yes everyones life is rough, even the Socs, and Gracie agreed. Gosh this is hard to follow, but I'm trying so excuse me if I get your name or what you said wrong. Ms. Nakada just said that Ponyboy will stay gold, but not in the way that the guy who wrote 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' meant. Now they are talking about who-in their opinion-is gold. Rose Upton said that her little cousin is gold because even the slightest thing makes him happy. It sounds to me that the same people are talking. Shouldn't someone else have a turn? The first group has now 3 minutes, and then the outsiders (get it?!) will discuss the same questions. I didn't catch the last bit but someone was talking about fighting with their sisters or something. Sorry about that :-|

The next group is starting, and this time I'm going to try real hard to listen properly. Btw I'm so glad I'm not in the Seminar because I hate talking in front of a class full of people (oh man I'm gonna have to read this blog to them! eek!) Sorry, back to the seminar! Maryam (is that how you spell it?) said she didn't feel that Johnny's character was developed. Sabrina says that she didn't like the fact that the movie didn't show the court scene, which is obviously a very important part. A girl (no idea what her name is, sorry) said that there aren't any movies that remain completely faithful to the books because the film directors don't have unlimited amounts of time, so they have to cut out parts. Sebastian asks the class, "Who do you think is truly gold?" Jack says that no one is truly gold, but some people are very close. You have to love who you are, and what you do. Personally I think that everyone is gold, but in their own way, because there is no actual definition of a person being gold. Rachel said that toddlers are gold because they haven't seen the bad side of the world. Sweet. Someone asked "Do you think you're gold?" No one said yes, and meant it.

The bells about to ring so imma go now, ciao :)

Socratic Seminar Prep
Writers workshop

HW: RJ 8.4 15-20 pages

It's finally my turn to blog today! We are starting by copying the questions for our first socratic seminar on to a loose piece of paper. We will turn it in tomorrow with answers and text evidence.

Q#1: Are things rough all over?

Q#2: Is the movie faithful to the book?

Q#3: Will Pony stay gold?

Q#4: Who do you think is truly gold?

Your question

On the back of the paper we are writing things that we will fill out during the seminar.

  • a quote that deepened your understanding
  • a quote that is a different stance than your own
  • Something I said
  • + about seminar
  • - about seminar
Now we are doing a writer's workshop. People are either finishing and printing their response to The Outsiders essay or answering the questions we just wrote for the socratic seminar. I think Ponyboy will not stay gold. Do you think he will? Comment your answer. I have no picture, but I wrote the notes so it's okay. We have only a few minutes left so I should pack up. Bye!

Jesi's First Blog!

Agenda

Culmination Requirements
Intro. To Socratic Seminar
Writer's Workshop

Homework
RJ 8.3 15-20 pages

Whoah okay, hey everyone! Today is my first blog, and I believe I am the last person to go. Anyway, today eighth graders attended their first (official) culmination meeting and in class we are discussing our requirements such as passing all 8th grade courses, having no more than two U's in work habits, missing no more than 9 days of school, having a good behavior record, good uniform record, good financial record, and 3 parent contacts (meaning that your parent could come to meetings, or check your report cards, etc, at least 3 times during the year).

Now we're writing in our English notebooks, discussing a Socratic Seminar which we will actually be participating in on Friday. Socrates was a Greek philosopher and teacher who believed that students gained knowledge through discussion. A socratic seminar is a dialogue. In dialogue we try to have a deeper understanding and are open ended, when in a debate you are trying to prove yourself right or prove another wrong and come to a conclusion.

Now the class is finishing up their essays on whether Ponyboy form The Outsiders will stay gold. In mine, I wrote that Pony will, but I am also really interested to read people who wrote with a different  opinion.

I actually have to go and print mine out so I will be right back. I think you'll enjoy this photo I just found of Milhon in third period.

Well, there are about 2 more minutes of class left, so I'm told, so I will conclude this. Thank god I've printed out my essay. Everyone is turning in their alpha-smarts and starting to pack up. So, have a good day! And whoever is next, good luck.

Agenda:

Writer's Workshop

Homework:
RJ 8.2
15-20 pages of your book

So, I finally got picked to do the blog today....yay (sarcastically of course). At least it's a Tuesday I so don't have to write that much. Anyway, Ms. Nakada just told us to take out our notebooks and turn to our grammar notes. Once we're on our grammar notes, we have to correct the sentence on the screen. She's going over how we should rarely use exclamation marks and that we should write like we can only use  four exclamation marks in our whole school year. Now, we are going over essay conventions. Ms. Nakada told us to check for three direct quotes with page numbers, ICE for each example, and two pieces of evidence for each body paragraph in our essay and then to peer edit if you're done checking it yourself. Ma Kaiia just pointed to Harry on my 1D notebook and said that he's the cutest and said that Liam wasn't cute anymore because he got a haircut. I totally disagree though because Liam will always be the cutest in my opinion. Everyone is working on their essays now.
Heres a selfie of me and Gracie....................

Sparky just warned us that the class is over in five minutes. Four minutes now. Ms. Nakada just said that we are going to have five book projects this year on any of the books that we are reading. She passed out a flier explaining what we could do for our projects and the due dates. Everyone is packing up now so I should probably go. Bye.

The time has come for me to do the blog :).  Today we started off with Ms. Nakada showing us an example of her Outsiders essay and reminding us to always write in present tense.  She tells us we will go through the same process when editing our essay as we did when writing our perfect paragraph. Each paragraph should have about 7 sentences.  Now, most people are continuing on writing their essay and others are taking STAR tests.  It has gotten very quiet.

Our essays in progress :) I spy Orson.

Enjoy your weekend!

I guess it would be my turn sooner or later *sigh*, but I guess it isn't too bad. So far what Ms. Nakada is showing us is how we should do our five paragraph. She then let us take notes on how to do a basic five paragraph essay. The notes are:

1st paragraph- Introduction: Thesis Statement

                                            Reasons/Plan

Lead/hook engaging the reader-question, fact, description
                                                                                              define terms

2nd-4th paragraph-Body: Reasons

                                        Evidence to support

5th paragraph- Conclusion: Restate thesis

                                            Summarize your reasoning

                                            Final thoughts

Well I'm not really sure about the very last one so make sure that the person next to you wrote it down, if they were here. After that we continued to write or type if you already finish your essay. Saad just said that we have 5 more minutes but it isn't the same without Sparky. With Sparky we are more sure, but since he went to a field trip, we have someone else looking at the time. When it comes to being a time keeper it's Sparky's job. Sorry I'm getting off topic. Anyways, everyone is packing up and waiting for the bell to ring. I guess I have to go because the bell just rang. So sorry for any spelling mistakes and bad grammar if there is any. So bye, or in some other cases, PEACE!

After finishing, we took notes on I.C.E. I.C.E. is an acronym I means introduce, C means cite, E means explain. People came in and saw what we would do in class. Ms. Nakada explained to the people what we would do in the future. Ms. Nakada mentioned about us writing novels and that scared me. We had extra time in class so we worked on the essay. Writing Response to Literature

HW
RJ 7.3  15-20 pages

Wow. This is a good day for me. First I lose all my Frisbee games, someone called my laugh ugly, and now I'm doing the blog.  Yay. Ms. Nakada just told us to take out our notebooks so we can write "Writing Response to Literature."  Sparky just told us that it is writing about something you read. We are now writing about what makes an effective response to literature and so far we have: understanding of the text, analyze deeper meanings, make connections, clearly organized, clear textual evidence, and thoughtful analysis. Ms. Nakada is now giving us the prompt for the essay we are writing which is: After reading S.E. Hinton's novel The Outsiders, write a response to literature arguing weather or not Ponyboy will stay gold. Provide specific text evidence to support your claim. Once we are done writing the prompt down we have to make a T chart giving reasons and evidence. Right now it's really quiet because everyone is writing. Btw Ms. Nakada, nobody broke the printer, they just fixed it and then it wouldn't work after they tried very hard to get it to copy something for them. It's a really complicated printer. Okay now we are packing up. I really hate to stop the blog but I gotta go bye!
