Due Tuesday
Hey everyone! Today it's Valentines Day, and while it may barely be 10:00 in the morning I think I've already eaten my body weight in chocolate. Joy. Ms. Nakada passed out some chocolate with a Gift of Words, like she did before we went on winter break last semester. The poems we're reading are about love, and they're very beautiful.
The first poem is by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and it's titled How Do I Love Thee? The poem is about how she loves someone very much. She explains how she lost her faith but even if she dies, she will still be in love.
The next poem we're looking at is called Friend by Langston Hughes. It's very short, only 6 lines long, but very sweet. It's about how someone had a friend that they loved, and even though they lost them, they still love them.
Finally, we're reading Sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare. We read it last year in Ms. Barbeau's class as well. It compares the writer's object of affection to a summer day. We says that her beauty will not fade because she is immortal, which confused some of us, but it turns out that she is the poem, which probably made us even more confused than before.
Ms. Nakada just announced that we'll be writing sonnets later this year, and everyone seemed kind of upset, but I'm fine with it because I love to write.
Now we're making summaries of the first four parts of The Book Thief.
Sparky just said that we have two minutes 'till the bell, so I'm gonna pack up. Bye!
