The Book Thief summaries

HW: RJ 6.1 p.272-292

Question Of The Day: Who is your favorite Character in The Book Thief? 

          We are finally back from school after a long three day weekend. Everyone is working on the summaries and drawings for parts one through four of The Book Thief while Ms. Nakada checks our reading journals 5.1-5.4. The room is mostly silent except for the turning of pages and the sound of Mr. Gabrich across the hall talking on his microphone.

          In Part 1, The Grave Digger's Handbook, Liesel's brother dies on the train on the way to their foster home and Liesel steals a book. She meets Hans (papa), Rosa (mama, or the woman with the iron fist), and Rudy. Hans teaches her how to read. Liesel becomes the heavyweight champion.
          In Part 2, The Shoulder Shrug, Liesel has the joy of books for Christmas. She starts delivering the was for mama. She writes letters to her real mother and learns the truth about the Nazi's destroying her family. After the book burning, she steals another book.
          In Part 3, Mein Kampf, Liesel is paranoid. The mayor's wife lets her visit her library. Max, the struggler is in hiding. Liesel and Rudy join Arthur Berg's gang and steal. They buy candy from Frau Dillers'. Max is on a train with Mein Kampf. Liesel and Rudy become tricksters. Arthur Berg leaves, and his sister will die in his arms. Max arrives at 33 Himmel street.
